Here is where the comparison gets dramatic. Spreadsheet users made errors in 3 percent of entries, mostly typos in manually typed prices. Notes app users hit an 11 percent error rate due to inconsistent formatting and accidental deletions. Pen-and-paper users had a shocking 18 percent error rate from illegible handwriting and lost pages.

Error types matter too. Spreadsheet errors were trivial and fixable. Notes app errors often corrupted entire entries. Paper errors were permanent data loss. When you are tracking seller URLs and payment confirmations, a lost note can mean a lost dispute case.
